Using buses, trains and taxis

Buses and trains

Follow these tips to help stay safe on buses and trains.

  • Don’t sit in an empty part of the bus or train. Try to make sure there are at least a few people around. Sit near the driver if there’s no one else around.
  • Keep an eye on your belongings. Sometimes thieves may try and steal your things.
  • If someone sits next to you and makes you feel uncomfortable, move closer to the driver.
  • You don’t have to let people know where you are getting off.
  • If you can, have the right change or a travel pass. This way people do not see how much money you are carrying.

Taxis

It’s always best to try to arrange lifts with your parents or trusted adults, but that’s not always possible.

Getting a taxi can be a safe way to get home. If you’re at a friend’s house, ask their parents to book you a taxi with a company they have used.
