History!

The Volunteer Police Cadet Scheme was designed to build bridges between young people, the community and the police.

Who

The VPC scheme is about taking a mixture of young people aged 13-17 and helping them make a difference for themselves and their community.

What

Whilst not a recruitment pathway into the Police, Cadets learn about the law, police procedures and specialist police units, and they develop some of the skills that police officers need such as communication, interpersonal skills and team working. They are also taught about community issues and local policing priorities.

Where

Dorset Police have units across Dorset and we are very proud of the young people who are committed to serving their community through volunteering their time and who act as fantastic ambassadors for Dorset Police.

Cadet Leader

The role of a volunteer Cadet leader can be varied from helping to run the weekly meetings, administration roles, helping out at policing events alongside the cadets and police officers or helping to supervise outdoors activities.

Volunteering as a Cadet Leader can be an inspiring and enriching experience, not only will you be assisting Dorset Police in meeting local policing priorities, you will be helping to develop, encourage and empower the young people of Dorset to have a voice and achieve things that they never believed possible, and you might even surprise yourself!
